BACKGROUND: The second most powerful type of creature after Sauron himself, Balrogs were a twisted and evil form of Maia, a spirit made of flesh. The most famous was the Balrog of Khazad-dûm, also know as Durin´s Bane, because he caused the death of the dwarf Durin VI and most of his folk.
